  • Land Registry title #HP701397 for Chrismas Lodge - 98Kb pdf.
Listing the restrictive covenants back to 1890, some of which are given as "Indenture dated x made between unknown parties contains restrictive covenants but neither the original deed nor a certified copy or examined abstract thereof was produced on first registration".

With some research some of these documents can be found in the Chrismas Lodge file kept at the Hampshire County Council archive at Winchester, indeed on document from around 1890 lists a member of the Chrismas family as one of the owners at that time, subsequenty confirmed by Alistair Chrismas, son of Joan Chrismas CBE.

The current situation at the West End Centre is being touted as a candidate for a Community Trust, and it is this legislation that would be used for such a change of management for the West End Centre. Only now are Hampshire County Council prepared to countenance such a change of direction, it is a great pity that they did not have the foresight to take this approach with Chrismas Lodge, just goes to show what public pressure can do !

  • Rushmoor Council meeting - "Concerns over Croft Lane access", Item 28(1) - 23Kb pdf. Unfortunately this is quite a big misunderstanding of the access problem. It is not envisaged that Croft Lane will suffer at all from this proposed development, the access under dispute is the entrance from Croft Lane into Brickfields Country Park, land currently owned by Hampshire County Council, not Croft Lane itself.

  • HCC report recommending closure of Chrismas Lodge - 31Kb pdf.
One of many Hampshire County Council have comissioned recently, closing residential care homes across Hampshire. At one point in this document it notes (point 2.2) - "It was noted by the Cabinet that the sites in question could have particular values for reinvestment in the remainder of the homes and provide opportunities to re-provide other facilities, potentially with external partners." It is interesting to note that Hampshire County Council's on-going response to the Chrismas Lodge situation is the now very worn out ".... to secure capital receipts that we can re-invest back into adult services facilities for the old and vulnerable, which is a priority for us in light of the reduction in government funding for these vital services." Little known fact - something like £5M of the final bill for the new Ticehurst facility at Tices Meadow was paid for from Health Authority funds.
